Chemists Protest Against Online Medicine Sales in Mira-Bhayandar; Medical Stores Remain Shut
Medical stores across Mira-Bhayandar remained shut as chemists staged a protest against online medicine sales following a nationwide call by AIOCD. A rally was organised in Bhayandar West demanding stricter regulation on online drug distribution.
Medical stores across Mira-Bhayandar remained closed on Thursday as chemists and medicine traders joined a nationwide protest against online medicine sales. The shutdown was observed following a call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD).
As part of the protest, the Bhayandar Chemist Welfare Association organised a rally in Bhayandar West. The march began from the statue of B. R. Ambedkar and proceeded to the Tehsildar office at around 10:30 am.
A large number of chemists and medicine sellers participated in the protest, raising concerns over the growing online sale of medicines. Protesters alleged that easy online access to medicines is leading to misuse among youngsters, including the consumption of drugs in addictive forms and the improper use of abortion-related medicines.
The protesters demanded stricter regulations on online pharmaceutical sales and warned that unchecked digital medicine distribution could pose serious health and safety risks.
Meanwhile, the closure of most medical stores in the city caused inconvenience to citizens, especially patients and their relatives, who faced difficulties in obtaining essential medicines throughout the day.
