Delhi Goes into “Metro Mode”: Work From Home, Office Timing Changes & Major Austerity Measures Announced
Delhi has shifted into “Metro Mode” with authorities announcing work-from-home directives, revised office timings, and major austerity measures aimed at reducing congestion, improving efficiency, and managing urban infrastructure challenges.
In a major move to tackle rising fuel prices and reduce traffic congestion, the Delhi government has announced several new measures following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for austerity and fuel conservation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that government employees will work from home for two days every week, while private offices have also been urged to adopt the Work From Home (WFH) model. The government has additionally directed ministers, officers, and employees to prefer metro travel instead of private vehicles.
As part of the new changes, Delhi government office timings have been revised from 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM, while MCD offices will now function from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Authorities believe these steps will help reduce traffic pressure and manage peak-hour congestion more effectively.
The government has also decided to suspend the purchase of new official vehicles for the next three months. Ministers and senior officials will avoid foreign tours for the coming year as part of the cost-cutting initiative.
Meanwhile, inflation concerns continue to rise across the country. Reports indicate that wholesale inflation in April touched its highest level in 42 months due to the surge in oil prices. In another major economic development, the central government has extended restrictions on sugar exports till September 30 to ensure adequate domestic availability.
