Narendra Mehta Urges Maharashtra Government to Reconsider Proposed Water Cut in Mira-Bhayandar

Former MLA Narendra Mehta has written to the Maharashtra government opposing the proposed water cut in Mira-Bhayandar city, citing the rapidly increasing population and the possibility of a severe water crisis if the decision is implemented.

In his letter addressed to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mehta referred to the state government’s instructions regarding planned water supply cuts and highlighted discussions held by officials from the Executive Engineer’s office of the Upper Vaitarna Project Division, Kalyan Zone.

According to the letter, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation currently receives approximately 258 MLD water from the Upper Vaitarna and STP authorities, while the city’s actual water demand has already crossed 425 MLD. However, residents are currently receiving only around 300 MLD water supply.

Mehta stated that Mira-Bhayandar is one of the fastest-growing cities in Maharashtra and that the population is increasing rapidly due to large-scale urban development and migration. He warned that implementing further water cuts would create serious hardship for citizens and could lead to an acute water shortage across the city.

The letter also mentioned that residents are already facing irregular water supply, with water being supplied for limited hours in several areas. Mehta emphasized that any additional reduction in supply during the summer season would severely impact daily life.

He urged the state government and concerned authorities to reconsider the proposed water cut plan and ensure uninterrupted water supply to Mira-Bhayandar residents. He further appealed for long-term planning to meet the growing water demands of the city.

The former MLA also requested authorities to treat Mira-Bhayandar as a priority area considering its population growth and urban expansion.
