Hawkers Accuse BJP Corporator of Collecting Monthly “Hafta”; Shanu Goyal Denies Allegations
A controversy has erupted in Mira-Bhayander after hawkers from Jaisal Park in Bhayander East accused BJP corporator Shanu Goyal of collecting monthly extortion money. Goyal has denied the allegations, calling them false and politically motivated.
A fresh controversy has surfaced in Mira-Bhayander’s Bhayander East area after hawkers operating near the Jaisal Park locality accused BJP corporator Shanu Goyal of allegedly collecting a monthly payment of ₹1,000 from street vendors.
The issue has triggered debate among local residents, hawkers, and political circles, especially after videos and statements related to the matter began circulating in the area.
Responding to the allegations, Shanu Goyal strongly denied all claims and termed the accusations completely false. She stated that action against hawkers was initiated only after repeated complaints from local residents regarding traffic congestion, illegal encroachment, and inconvenience caused in the busy Jaisal Park area.
According to Goyal, the municipal corporation had also issued instructions to clear unauthorized hawkers from the locality to ease congestion and maintain public movement in the market area.
She further claimed that despite alternative vending spaces being made available by the civic administration, several hawkers were unwilling to shift to the designated locations and continued operating illegally on roads and footpaths.
Local residents have also voiced concerns over increasing crowding and obstruction in the Bhayander East vegetable market area, demanding stricter implementation of anti-encroachment measures.
The controversy has now become a major talking point in Mira-Bhayander politics, with both hawkers and civic representatives presenting conflicting claims over the alleged “hafta” collection and the ongoing anti-encroachment drive.
